Working With WebAssign
-
You can log in by clicking the link
WebAssign login page.
Your login information should be:
- VT email address
- Password: Click "Forget?" when you log in for the first time or forgot
your password.
-
If you have already used WebAssign for a previous calculus course here at
Virginia Tech (Math 1225, Math 1226, Math 2204) you will not need to buy
another access code and will not
have to setup a new WebAssign account.
- Do not purchase WebAssign or the textbook through WebAssign's website. The university bookstore has negoticated a better price.
- All Homework assignments (except "Getting Started with WebAssign")
allow three attempts per free response question and two attempts per
multiple-choice question. You are graded question-by-question, with
the best score on each question part being used.
- After the due date of a homework assignment, you can click on the
assignment link to access the "Practice another Version" and the
"Solution" features of the system. In particular full detailed
solutions are available for each problem after the due date for you to study.
- Working with WebAssign can be tricky. Here are some tips:
-
Be careful with your parentheses. Make sure they match. Make sure that you are providing parentheses when they are needed, and not putting them when they are provided.
-
Be careful with capitals. WebAssign treats C and c differently. This includes Greek letters. Use the lower-case pi. It is curved.
-
Be careful with functions. If you enter a trig fuction by typing (rather than using the menu) make sure to include parentheses. Don't use the function "e" if you mean the constant.
-
Be aware of the time. WebAssign will log you out and not tell you after some time. This will result in your answers just vanishing. Save your answers often to prevent this.
-
If your answer still has a box in it, WebAssign won't be able to understand it and you will be marked incorrect.
-
Remember not to round if the question doesn't tell you to. Unless
stated otherwise, WebAssign expects an exact answer.
Even if WebAssign wants your final answer to be rounded, use the exact numbers
until the end to avoid additional roundoff error.
-
WebAssign
will not recognize the typed letters i,j,k as the standard basis
vectors
so they must be
selected under the "Vectors" heading using the calcPad.
-
Be careful when using the arrow keys to scroll through a problem
because they can alter your multiple choice selections.
-
If after clicking on a homework assignment, WebAssign returns you back
to the login screen, try clearing the cache in your web browser and
reopen it.
